Discipleship is the intensely personal activity of two or more people helping each other experience a growing relationship with God! According to Colossians 2:6-10 there are three levels of discipleship that build on each other:

  1. Identity in Christ (In Christ you have been made complete)
  2. Maturity in Christ (Being build up in Christ)
  3. Walk in Christ (So walk in Him)

Rejection is a two-way street: You can receive it and you can give it. In this life everyone has to live with the pain and pressure of rejection.

You are in the world but you are not of the world. You are in Christ. If you find yourself responding to rejection defensively, let it remind you to focus your attention on those things which will establish your faith.

Your heavenly Father has given you an intercessor who is seated at His right hand to pray for you. He prays for you to be kept from the evil one who wants to exploit your pain and cause to react from your flesh rather than your position in Christ!

Ch. 11 Excerpts: “Healing Emotional Wounds From Your Past”

Bad things do happen to bad people. Severe and traumatic experiences may have scarred you emotionally. The memory of it can even prompt an emotional response long after its occurrence and cause you to be stuck there.

God does everything in the light and knowing this, you can always count on God to bring your past conflicts to the surface at the right time so that everything can be brought into the light and dealt with. He is the Wonderful Counselor and will guide you though.
Summary

Father God loves you too much to leave you in the pain of your past to define your future. Unforgiveness is one the biggest barriers that keeps His children from experiencing His healing from past pain and keeps you stuck in it. He shows you the way by forgiving your offenses towards Him and gives you courage that you can trust Him and do the same for others.

Your emotions play a major role in the process of renewing your mind and are a product of your thought life. If you’re not thinking right, if your mind is not being renewed, if you are not perceiving God and His Word properly, it will show up in your emotional life.

The important process of renewing your mind includes managing your emotions by managing your thoughts and perceptions and acknowledging your feelings honestly and lovingly in your relationships with others.
Summary

God’s Word gives you a good reason to not let your anger rule your life - it doesn’t bring about the righteousness of God. While your emotions are signals, they are to be questioned by a thought process with the lens of God’s truth fixed in place that enables you to discern truth from lies. When you give it to Him, He will guide you through it with confidence!

Faith is God’s way to live and reason is man’s way, but faith and man’s ability to reason are often in conflict. God is rational and He works through your rational ability. The problem is that your ability to reason is limited and in Is. 55:9, we learn “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Strongholds are the prime target of your warfare and are not to be fought on the plane of human ingenuity or ability.
Summary

Your Father encourages you as you walk out your faith in this world. He knows there will be battles that you will have to fight that are not of this world and that are intended to destroy your identity in Christ. He graciously gives you divine weapons to destroy arguments and ALL arrogance (pride) raised against the knowledge of Him. KNOW who you are in Christ!

When you base your self-worth on the success of your own personal plans, your life will be one long, emotional roller coaster ride. The only way to get off the roller coaster is to walk by faith according to the truth of God’s Word.

God wants you to be successful, fulfilled, and happy, but it is imperative for your spiritual maturity that your beliefs about success, significance, fulfillment, satisfaction, happiness, fun, security and peace are anchored in the Scriptures. What you believe determines how you walk.
Summary

Your true success does not depend on other people, it hinges on your obedience. If you believe what God says and tells you to do, you can succeed. You can accept God’s goals for your life (as Joshua did) and use all that God has given you to achieve them!

Your Christian walk is the direct result of what you believe about God and yourself. If your faith is off your walk will be off. God has designed you in such a way that you can know on a moment-by-moment basis if your belief system is properly aligned with God’s truth. That system is your emotions, and they alert you that you may be cherishing a faulty goal based on a wrong belief.

Godly goals center on character development: becoming the person God wants you to be. Paul says in 1 Tim. 1:5, “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and from a sincere faith.”
Summary

The enduring of troubles, tribulations and tests will cultivate God’s character in you, you must trust His love for you! Nothing is wasted when you give it to God - it will serve His good purposes!

Believing who God is, what He says and what He does is the passkey into the kingdom of God. Faith is the essence of the Christian’s day-to-day activity. Paul wrote, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” (Col. 2:6). How did you receive Him? By faith! How then are you to walk in Him? By faith! Walking refers to the way you conduct your everyday life and your success at spiritual growth and maturity hinges on walking by faith in Christ.
Summary

God gives so many examples of those who have come before you in the faith! By faith that they walked in and lived by, God gave them purpose, brought salvation, received miracles, secured blessings, courage was supplied, the dead were raised to life, victories were secure and much more!

Ch. 5 Excerpts: “Becoming The Spiritual Person You Want To Be”

Jesus invites you to a restful walk in tandem with Him just as two oxen walk together under the same yoke - His yoke is an easy yoke. As the lead, Jesus walks at a steady pace and if you pace yourself with Him, your burden will be easy. The key to a restful yoke relationship with Jesus is to learn from Him and open yourself to His gentleness and humility. The picture of walking in tandem with the Spirit in tandem with Jesus helps you to understand your service to God.
Summary

Jesus knows that you get weary and that you carry burdens. He is willing to carry them with you if you will get into the “yoke” with Him! You don’t have to go it alone in your own strength anymore!. As you rest in Him and learn from Him, He will set the examples for you to lighten your load!

The process of walking in accordance with your true identity in Christ is called walking in the Spirit. You must focus on trusting Christ and let Him move you along in the right direction.

You will either live life according to the flesh and those choices will reflect the deeds of the flesh, OR by the Spirit and bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Summary

Father God has given you a clear distinction between the deeds of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5. The one you desire, the flesh OR the Spirit, will be evident because you will produce the fruit by what you put into practice.

Ch. 4 Excerpts: “Something Old, Something New”

When you received Christ the power of sin was not broken, but its power to DOMINATE you was broken through your death, resurrection and righteousness in Christ. You no longer have to participate in sin as you were before receiving Christ - you are dead to sin and alive to God IN CHRIST!

It is your responsibility not to let “sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts.” (Rom. 6:12)
Summary

God has set you free from being a slave to sin! If you are in Christ, you no longer have to give the parts your body to the sin that used to rule you - that part of you is dead. IN CHRIST, you have been ransomed and redeemed to live to Him who gave you new life!
For Your Consideration

The apostle Paul, himself continued to struggle after giving his life to Christ, and we read this in Rom. 7:14-25. But Romans 8:1 renews our hope:

“Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

It’s important to understand that when you came into spiritual union with God through your new birth, you didn’t add a new divine nature to your old, sinful nature.

YOU EXCHANGED NATURES! Salvation is regeneration and guides you to a new way to live.

God multiplies His grace and peace to you in the knowledge of Him and His Son, Jesus Christ! His divine power provides for everything you need to live life unto Him and for  cultivating godliness (His character) into you!

Understanding your spiritual identity is the master key to resolving your daily conflicts.
The key issue to harmony with your heavenly Father is obedience to Him. Any disobedience to God does not negate your identity - He will always be your Father and you will always be a member of His family.
Summary

There are always going to be things that will try to drive a wedge between you and your heavenly Father like doubt, unbelief, unworthiness, and accusations. But you have Christ who defends you and intercedes for you!
This is God’s love at work for you!

In each of Paul’s letters, God reveals to you:

It’s easy to jump to the practical quick fix in response to doubt, temptation, attacks, or conflicts in relationships rather than seek God first. If your victories are in Him, then you must begin by seeking Him.

God has given to you and continually gives to you all throughout His Word what you need when you face troubles, temptations, and tests to be able believe Him and stand firm in Him without shame!

God calls you a “saint” in Christ! That which is true of Christ is now true of you, because you are in Christ - it’s part of your identity!

You can help yourself to grow into maturity in your faith in Christ by continually reminding yourself to believe what He has said about you and who you are in Him.

You no longer need to see yourself as a sinner who hopes to make it into heaven by God’s grace. As you gain understanding and believe that you are who God says you are, that’s when you will begin to live above the sinful tendencies that want to drag you back to the old life and away from the Father.
Summary

God has given you a “great love” from His heart to yours and calls you, “His Beloved”! You are seen by God, loved by Him with a pure love, and given a place in His family!
For Your Consideration

How does this Scripture help you to live your life for God?

God wants you trust His Word to you:

“I am a temple - a dwelling place - of God. His Spirit and His life dwells in me.” (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19)

The difference between the first and last Adam spells the difference between life
and death for you! You have been given a new life with a new identity, new results in
a new title!

God has guaranteed traits and promises to you by His Word simply because you were born into His holy nation by faith in Christ.

What you receive as a Christian isn’t the point, it’s who you are. It’s not what you do as a Christian that determines who you are; it’s who you are that determines what you do.

Understanding your identity in Christ is absolutely essential to your success at living the Christian life.
Summary

God’s rich mercy, great love, and boundless grace has made provision for your salvation and the promise of a new life right where you are!

How does this affect the way that you think God sees you?

God wants you believe His Word to you:

“I am chosen of God, holy and dearly loved” (Col. 3:12; 1 Thess 1:4)

  • Weakness replaced authority

God calls to you when you hide from Him because of sin. He sees you, knows your mistakes, and how you wrestle with your identity when you fail. Yet, in His great love for you, He still longs for you to be reconciled with Him, to teach you His ways, and walk with

PREPARING WITH HOPE

As we begin 2026, it is our hope and prayer as the family at Passion Church, that this 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting will match our heart and mission:

“We exist to make Christ followers that are transformed by God’s Spirit and truth.”

God has given Pastor Nate a clear vision that will impact our communities for the glory of God! We are part of that vision!

The first step for each of us is to understand the importance of knowing and living in our IDENTITY IN CHRIST! For this reason, we will use the book “Victory Over The Darkness” along with our Bible to learn how to move in this. This is what will transform our lives and touch others with the hope that is ours in Christ! It will determine how we live and build our life personally and how we will serve God in our church and community. We cannot build anything that will last without settling this issue in our hearts and letting it govern and guide all that we are and do.

Through this prayer guide, you are invited to actively participate in each day’s readings, summaries and considerations so that you may be encouraged, enlightened, equipped and empowered to live your faith with your confidence firmly rooted in how God sees you and how much He loves you!

We ask you to pray daily:
  1. For God to speak to you personally as you pray and fast
  2. For God to guide you to pray for the relationships in your life
  3. For God to lead you to pray for your Passion Church family and the potential impact that we can have together in our Quad Cities communities

We welcome you to join us for a guided time of corporate prayer throughout these 21 Days that will be Mondays through Fridays (Jan. 12 - Feb. 1) from 6:30 am - 7:15 am in the Passion Church sanctuary. After our prayer time has concluded, we will have discussion from the chapter featured that day Victory Over The Darkness.
